About Me
Merilee Applewhite was born in College Station, TX and moved to San Angelo when she was 2 years old.
Coach Mer started training under Coach Kevin when she was 7 years old and has been with him since then. Merilee is RISE RAISED and has been with Rise since day one in 2020.
While competing for Rise, Merilee was one of the best tumblers in the nation racking up 3 state championships and being a runner up for the National Championships. She retired as a level nine power tumbler and quickly transitioned to coaching.
Mer started coaching at Rise in 2021 and became the youngest person in the Nation to be accredited with her Pro Card from United State Gymnastics receiving it on her 16th birthday. Coach Mer has been standing next to Coach Kevin and Coach Opi training to coach since she was tiny and is already regarded in Texas competitive gymnastics as a technical, joyful, encouraging and tough floor coach. In 2023 Coach Kevin made her the main tumbling coach for the RISE Competitive Team.
Coach Mer is also a standout in our Learn to Rise pre-school program and one of the most important persons in the success and culture of RISE. She loves her athletes; she loves Jesus and is committed to doing things the right way for the right reasons. Rise is so blessed to have her.
